Zenni Optical was founded in 2003 by Tibor Laczay and Julia Zhen in San Rafael, California as 19dollareyeglasses.com. Its name was changed to Zenni Optical in 2006 after it began selling glasses for less than $19. By 2008, the company claimed it was selling around 7,000 pairs of glasses per week.
